Why You Should Have a Best Friend Photoshoot

Tomorrow is my nephew's seventeenth birthday. For each birthday with each nibling, we have an Auntie/Nibling Day, and they get to choose somewhere to eat and something fun to do. My nephew Phillip for his special day wants me to go with him while he hangs out with his friends to do a photoshoot and my heart skipped several beats. I'd love to of course!

This got me thinking of this Best Friend Photoshoot I did last summer. It warmed my heart that these beautiful ladies wanted to include best friend shots into their senior photo session. Friends are so important at any age and being able to look back several years down the road to see how much you've grown in so many ways is something to treasure.

I grew up in the 90's and back then I used a 110 camera to take photos of me and my friends. There was no making sure that the lighting was perfect or previewing to make sure you got the shot or being able to take thirty shots of the same pose just to make sure that someone is not blinking. I loved it then still and I love the boxes of photographs I have of so many friends over the years.

But one of my dearest friends, her name was Bekey, passed away from cancer in 2023. We had met in middle school in 1996 and had been friends all those years. I have thousands of photos of Bekey, but hardly any of her and I together since I was always the one behind the camera. One of the many regrets I have is not getting a best friend photoshoot with her and I while she was here to look back on.

Friendship is a treasure, and best friendship is extra special. When you have someone or a group of people to share your life with -- the good and the bad, the happy and the sad -- it is to be celebrated. What better way to celebrate than with a photo session?
